Help Your Child to Read and Write is a program for parents with children of elementary school age. The program helps parents build their children's confidence and supports reading and writing in the home.

The program:

  • Parents meet with a workshop leader once a week for 6-8 weeks
  • Parents look at their children's strengths and abilities
  • They use good quality children's books to practice strategies for making meaning from print
  • They review writing skills, comprehension strategies and study skills
The Benefits:

  • Parents’ and children’s confidence levels increase significantly
  • Parents report that working with their children is more relaxed and productive
  • Everyone in the home reads more
  • Parents and the school become a team in their children’s learning
